- Made from three basic components: clay, silica (flint), and feldspar.
- The clay in traditional ceramics provides work ability of the material before firing hardens it and constitutes the major body material.
- The silica has a high melting temperature and is the refractory as well as glass former component of traditional ceramics.
- Feldspar, has a low melting temperature and makes a glass when the ceramic mix is fired. It bonds the refractory components together.
- A type of ceramic used in traditional applications such as construction, earthenware, and glassware.
